Abstract:In the 21st Century, among the major challenges around the globe are the social and economic challenges facing the youth. NGOs in Kenya and globally among other stakeholders have come up with various programs/projects aimed at addressing youth related socio-economic challenges. However, despite these efforts, the overall picture of youth projects performance in developed or developing countries has remained limited, information is rare or scattered in various places and efforts to collate it are minimal. Therefore, timely data on youth projects which can be quickly transformed into actionable information aiding informed decisions on what is working or not is key. This can be achieved through effective monitoring and evaluation (M&E) practices. This study goal is to explore the influence of M&E practices and performance of youth projects. Precisely, the study pursued to establish the influence of M&E Planning, M&E Operationalization, M&E Reporting, M&E Dissemination and the performance of youth projects in NGOs in Kenya. The study is centered on theory of change, program theory, realistic evaluation theory and theory of constraints. The unit of observation was 102 youth projects completed in a period between 2013 and 2017 both years inclusive and unit of analysis was 10 NGO in Kenya, registered and listed by the NGO Coordination Board as at January 2019. The respondents were the key informants in every project and stratified random sampling technique was adopted. Primary data was gathered using structured questionnaire. A pilot study was conducted to pre-test the validity and reliability of data collection instruments.The data collected was analyzed using statistical package for social sciences (SPSS) version 20 software which produces results for both descriptive and inferential statistics. The study employed regression and correlation analysis in order to establish the relationship between the study variables. The results obtained exhibited that there was a positive linear relationship between M&E Practices; M&E Planning, M&E Operationalization, M&E Reporting and M&E Dissemination (independent variables) and performance of youth projects (dependent variable) in NGO in Kenya.The study concluded that the way M&E practices are being conducted in an organization determines whether the projects will achieve the desired projects outcomes or not and the organizations that invest in ensuring effective M&E practices enhance project performance.Consequently, it is recommended that M&E practices should always be done with highest consideration of professionalism, expertise and standards to ensure capturing of all important elements necessary to ensure successful implementation, monitoring and measurement of the youth projects milestones. The study also provided insights necessary to ensure synchronization of tactics and cooperative working on M&E practices on youth projects that reflect, match and measure the key objectives while providing an overall picture on the performance. The findings of the study can be used as a source of reference for other researchers.

Abstract:Since the coinage of the phrase ‘Double-Consciousness,’ by W.E.B. Du Bois in The Souls of Black Folk (1903), critics never ceased to attribute its origin either to Hegel, adding that it is no more than a replica of the Hegel’s ‘Unhappy Consciousness,’ or to William James’ theory of Pragmatism, or still to Waldo Emerson’s Transcendentalism. My contention is that Du Bois’ use of the concept goes beyond the uses of all his predecessors. For him, the concept is the outcome of a unique experience that is, exclusively African-American. And even if the concept of double-consciousness was employed before Du Bois by many scholars, namely William James, Goethe, and Ralph Waldo Emerson, Du Bois’ use differs radically from all these uses, simply because Du Bois has invested and imbued the concept with traits that apply only to his race, as a consequence of their peculiar experience of slavery and its attendant consequences.

Abstract:A total of 35 species representing 4,658 bivalve individuals were collected from mangrove and seagrass ecosystems of Northwestern Bohol comprising three towns namely: Calape, Tubigon and Clarin. They were collected with the aid of belt transect which was 100 m long. There were six Orders of bivalves namely; Arcoida, Mytiloida, Pterioida, Ostreoida, Pectinoida and Veneroida and 14 Families explicitly: Arcidae, Mytilidae, Pinnidae, Placunidae, Pectinidae, Spondylidae, Cardiidae, Mactridae, Tellinidae, Lucinidae, Malleidae, Solenidae, Solecurtidae and Ostreoidae. These 35 bivalves’ species fall under 23 Genera; Scapharca, Anadara, Modiolus, Atrina, Pinna, Isognomon, Malleus, Placenta, Decatopecten, Spondylus, Crassostrea, Allectryonella, Ensiculus, Trachycardium, Fragum, Mactra, Tellina, Placamen, Tapes, Austriella, Gafrarium, Animalocardia and Azorinus. The species of bivalves were identified based on the shell structures and were presented in a dichotomous key.  Cluster analysis and distribution of bivalves were conducted using PAST software version 3.2. The cluster analysis showed a monophyletic relationship between taxa. This study will serve as guide for other researchers that may study them in the future.

Abstract:Catch Per Unit Effort (CPUE) is a measure of status of marine resource in a given area. In this study, bivalve fishery information was gathered using the self-structured questionnaire. There were 61 respondents who were the registered fishermen of Calape, Tubigon and Clarin. Among the three towns it was Clarin where highest mean CPUE was observed with 1.2kg/hr/man. This was followed by Calape with 0.8kg/hr/man and lowest mean CPUE was recorded in Tubigon with 0.6kg/hr/man. High CPUE value means that there are still enough bivalve resources in the area and lowest CPUE means that these resources are endangered. Considering that, the result of this study showed that there is a need to regulate the collection of bivalves with lower wild stocks to avoid loss of these natural resources.

Abstract:Despite the growing popularity of online game playing, only a small number of surveys comparing the communication apprehension of players and its relationship to them as students was done. Therefore, an online questionnaire survey was used to examine online computer players’ (n=105) communication apprehension and its relation to school. The survey examined basic demographic information and related indicators to know the rating scale for communication apprehension, performance task and school socialization. Results showed that online gamer’s communication apprehension is high. Showing that most of the online gamers have difficulty in communicating with co-gamers while playing. On contrary, this high level of communication apprehension is not seen to be significant with online gamers’ performance task and school socialization. It is proven that online gamers are not distracted by the anxiety in communication with others when it comes in making presentations. Results also showed that on general, whether low or high level of communication apprehension is attained, performance task and school socialization is not affected.

Abstract:By using the theory of Human Resource Management that a field of management specifically studies relationships and human roles in corporate organizations. The element of Human Resource management is human beings who are workers in the company. Therefore the focus studied by Human Resource Management is a problem related to human labor. Work motivation issues can affect employee performance. In performance there are several things that must be considered, namely quality, quantity and timeliness. Strong encouragement is needed to meet these performance indicators in order to achieve good results. This study was conducted to determine the effect of work motivation on Frontliner performance at PT. Bank Rakyat Indonesia Tbk. (BRI), PT Bank Negara Indonesia Tbk. (BNI), and PT Bank Pembangunan Daerah Jawa Barat and Banten, Tbk. (BJB) in JABODETABEK area. The sample used in this study was amounted to 172 respondents, using a quantitative approach; the data for this study was obtained through questionnaires that the specified respondents had to fill in. Techniques of data analysis used were Validity and Reliability Test, Classical Assumption Test, Simple Regression Test, Determination Coefficient (R Square), Correlation by using SPSS program. The results of analysis was based on Classical Assumption Test that motivation has a significant effect on employee performance.

Abstract:Savings and Loan Cooperative have an important role to play in accelerating Indonesia’s economic growth. But, Saving and loan cooperative in Indonesia in down trend. KSP Sinar Mandiri Sejahtera is one of savings and loan cooperative in Banyuwangi City that has decrease performance . The purpose of this study is to find out factors that influence level of employee’s satisfaction at KSP Sinar Mandiri Sejahtera and its effects on employee performance. The study employed a quantitative methodology. Data was collected through a self-administered survey questionnaire. The questionnaire is adopted from a previous validated survey. A sample of 55 staff, which is all employee at KSP Sinar Mandiri Sejahtera. SEM-PLS is used for data analysis statistically.  It is concluded form study that facets such as working environment, compensation, and job characteristic affect the employee’s satisfaction which leads to increased performance.  The findings of the paper emphasize the need for management to improve working environment, compensation, and job characteristic to boost employee performance.

Abstract:The purpose of this study is to investigate how Work Engagement and Work Environment affect the turnover of employees in IT companies with a sample of programmers. By using Resource Conservation theory as a theoretical framework, this study contributes to existing research by examining the relationship between Work Engagement (ie Vigour, Dedication and Absorbtion) and Work Environmnent moderated by Work Family Conflict. Descriptive analysis and correlation will be conducted using SPSS. Then, to test the hypothesis above, Partial Least Square Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) analysis is used using SMARTPLS. From the results of the study indicated to have significant influence on TurnOver Intension from the three variables studied, they are Work Environment, Work-Engagement and Work-Family Conflict, only Work Engagement has significant influence on TurnOver Intension, and it is negative. This means that the higher the employee's Work Engagement, the lower the TurnOver level in the company that becomes the object of study.

Abstract:W.E.B. Du Bois’concept of Double-Consciousness, as announced in his groundbreaking work The Souls of Black Folk (1903), has been dramatized in African-American narratives in a variety of ways. Each novelist has focused on one or many of the devices through which he has tried to highlight Double-Consciousness as a perennial trait of the African-American personality. In Richard Wright’s Native Son, the vernacular is a major device used by the author to underline the doubleness that pervades the novel, with a special focus on Bigger Thomas, as the epitome of African-Americans doomed to live a dual life – as Africans and as Americans, but not totally either. Highly conscious that the aforementioned character lives with a shattered self, the author makes him use two linguistic registers, the only successful way that would enable him to better express his unstable feelings. These two registers are, paradoxically enough, contradictory but complementary. Being the product of two opposing cultures, one African and the other American, Bigger can never sacrifice one side of his personality. Therefore, his bicultural background entails both the formal and the vernacular languages to interact with a context fraught with dualism. It is this dual use of language that helps the African-Americans to achieve a sort of equilibrium of their schizoid psyche. In making the Daltons speak one language, namely the forml one, and Bigger speak two registers of language, the author stresses the doubleness of Bigger, reflected in this very use of language. Bigger’s vascillation between two registers of language is but a mere reflection of his perpetual twoness.

Abstract:The downfall of the last authoritarian ruler in May 1998 marked the beginning of the transition to democracy in Indonesia. After being curbed and controlled by the government for decades, a question arises, who actually controls media content in the era of liberalization. This research investigates political economic factors that affect television workers and the content they produce during a period from 1998 to 2014, and one key questions raised: What is the most influential factor that affects television workers in shaping their content? This research used descriptive surveys and questionnaires were distributed to 400 television workers, from top to lower level employees at 10 largest television stations in Indonesia. This research found that, on a daily basis, the audience is the most influential factor on content affecting some 31 percent television workers followed by advertiser (19%), media owners (18.5 %) and regulators (18 %). Politicians showed the least influence affecting only 13.2 % television workers.
