Abstract:In this we will design a advanced flexible tailing-edge wing with a composite material, where flaps will be gapless, forming a seamless transition region with the wing while remaining attached at the forward edge and sides. The designed wing is known as flex foil. The flex foil can improve the aircraft aerodynamic efficiency and significantly reduce the airport area noise generation during take-off and landing.

Abstract: The main objective of this thesis is to get a better understanding of flow behavior of a nose cone bluff Bodies of missiles. To do so the influence of pressure is investigated. Results are gained from calculations performed with CFD analysis program. Also there’s a possibility of pressure decrement. This thesis focuses on the simulation of flow around bluff bodies in which unsteady nature of flow are commonly found using computational fluid dynamics (CFD). Various turbulence models have been tested to develop understanding and proper modeling techniques for the flow around bluff bodies.

Abstract: This study evaluated the mechanical properties of Terminalia catappa trees sourced from five different South-western States of Nigeria. Five stumps of the Terminalia catappa were randomly selected and felled from Ondo, Ogun, Oyo, Osun and Lagos respectively. Five specimens were dimensioned from the each bolts derived from three stem portions (Top, Middle and Base) of the wood from each State. The mechanical properties which includes; modulus of rupture, modulus of elasticity, compression, impact bending strength and density were evaluated in accordance with British Standard D 373. The mean values obtained range from  0.50 – 1.34 g/cm3, 27.00 – 86.62 N/mm2, 6445.20 – 17606.01 N/mm2, 20.10 – 42.05 N/mm2 and 0.10 – 0.56 J/mm for the density, modulus of rupture, modulus of elasticity, compression and impact bending strength respectively. The results showed that there were significant differences between the stem portions and among the State of sourced in all the properties assessed at 5 % level of probability. It was observed that irrespective of the State of sourced, strength properties of the Terminalia catappa increased in mean values from Top to Base portion of the tree. Based on the findings of this study, Terminalia catappa tree could as well be used for structural applications both for furniture’s and house noggin.

Abstract: The component chosen for analysis is a leaf spring which is an automotive component used to absorb vibrations induced during the motion of the vehicle. The function of Leaf spring is to distort when loaded and to recover its original shape when the load is removed. Leaf springs are long and narrow plates attached to the frame of trailer that rest above or below the trailers axle. The work is carried out on a semi elliptical Leaf spring having 8 Leaves. The number of leaves vary as per load capacity.
The objective of this present work is to estimate the stresses and deflections calculated by hand calculation and this is compared with the FEA result. The FEA model of the Leaf spring has been generated in CATIA V5 R17 and imported in ANSYS 14.5 for Finite Element Analysis. Which are most popular CAE tools. The design constrains are stresses and deflections. The strength validation is done using the FEA software.

Abstract: The current trend in aircraft design is to increase the proportion of fibre composites in the structures. Since many primary parts also are constructed using metals, the number of metal-composite structures is increasing. Such structures have traditionally often been avoided as an option because of the lack of methodology to handle the mismatch between the material properties. From the design point of view, it is a challenge to construct a weight optimal hybrid structure with the right material in the right place. With a growing number of hybrid structures, these problems need to be addressed. The purpose of the current research is to assess the strength, durability and thermo mechanical behaviour of a hybrid composite-aluminum wing structure by testing and analysis. The work performed in this paper focuses on the analysis part of the research and is divided into two parts. In the first part, the theoretical framework and the background are outlined. Significant material properties, aircraft specification aspects and the modelling framework are discussed. In the second part the profile is modelled in detail using the software further analyzed using computerized finite element analysis and the result is incorporated.

Abstract: Non linear process control is a difficult task in process industries. Control of liquid level in a spherical tank is one among them. It is highly non linear due to variation in the area of cross section of level system with change in shape. This paper investigates the design of PI controller and Self Tuning Fuzzy PI Controller for a spherical tank system. The servo and regulatory responses of the controllers were obtained. The simulation results are obtained using MATLAB. From the simulation it is clear that Self tuning fuzzy PI based controller perform well in terms of peak over shoot, settling time, rise time compared to other conventional controllers.

Abstract: HyperForm is the module of Altair Hyperworks used for formability analysis and prediction various defects like wrinkles, spring-back and thinning occurred in sheet metal drawing process. A sheet metal drawing process is widely used in industry for producing seamless cup formed parts in automobile, aircraft and household applications. During the product design and tool design designer are still adapts trial and error method to decide blank shape, blank size, draw tool and process parameters. Computer aided engineering (CAE) plays very significant role in the decision making of various parameters of sheet metal forming processes and it helps to designer during product design as well tool design stage to decide optimum and accurate process parameters. The use of CAE software such as HyperForm during product design and tool design stage minimizes the tool trial time and cost. This paper describes the study of effect of die parameter such as die radius and process parameters such as blank holding force for different thicknesses on defects like wrinkles and thinning during sheet metal single stage drawing of cylindrical cup. Altair HyperForm  CAE  tool  is  used  for  this  investigation  as  a  virtual  tool  and  the  results  are  compared  with  actual  production  of  component  by  designing  and developing  tool for drawing of sheet  metal. The study reveals that the die radius influences on defects like wrinkles. The result of Altair HyperForm well matches with the actual produced products.

Abstract: The aerospace industry deals from the beginning with structures with special requirements as extreme lightweight and withstanding to a big number of load cases. Aerodynamics constraints lead to supplementary restrictions, the results being the complex shape to sustain the fuselage, the rotor blades or the wings skin. This paper presents a static structural analysis of the main rotor blade for the light helicopter. To simulate the mechanical behaviour of the blade, a finite elements method was used. A case of hovering flight mode and steady state was considered.

Abstract: This paper focuses on the problem of Transmission loss allocation in a power system .It is   a centralized issue in today’s deregulated market. It is necessary to allocate the real power losses effectively without affecting the market participants due to nonlinear nature of line flows. In this paper a simple novel methodologies are proposed to allocate the losses to the market participants by using simple circuits’ laws and loss formulae .These methodologies are tested on standard IEEE 5-Bus system and IEEE 30-Bus system. The simulation results were obtained using MATLAB and compared with the above methodologies.

Abstract: In this paper, work is carried out on a multi leaf spring having five leaves used by a commercial vehicle. The main idea behind this work is to replace the existing steel material for the multi leaf spring with composite material with same width, thickness and load carrying capacity. By using composite materials the weight of the multi leaf spring is reduced drastically.  In the present work four composite materials are considered. They are E-glass/epoxy, graphite/epoxy, carbon/epoxy, Kevlar/epoxy. The modal analysis is carried out theoretically for finding the natural frequencies for all the materials of the multi leaf spring for the first five modes. To validate the theoretical modal analysis, modal analysis is conducted in ANSYS software for the first five modes. Modeling is done using Creo3.0 and analysis is done using ANSYS 12.1 software. The ANSYS results are almost coincide with theoretical modal analysis values. In addition to the modal analysis harmonic analysis is carried for all the materials for finding the resonance frequency. From the harmonic analysis graphs the resonance frequency are identified for all the cases considered in this work.

Abstract: Voltage collapse has been recognized as a series threat in power system stability and operation. Fast and accurate indications and allocations of voltage stability in power systems are a challenging task to accomplish. Voltage violations and undesirable line outages might be inevitable when power systems operated close to its transmission capacity limits. Unexpected load increases or insufficient reactive power supply may contribute to partial or total voltage collapse threatening system security. The ability to draw a clear and complete picture of system voltage stability with accurate indications and precise voltage collapse allocations allow operators to take the necessary action to prevent such incidents. A successful avoidance of such system collapse is based on method’s accuracy, speed of indication, and very low computation time. This paper presents an efficient method for conducting line voltage stability analysis in power systems. This newly developed method is accurate, fast, simple, and theoretically proven for finding precise voltage collapse points and for determining voltage stability at each transmission line. Voltage stability margins can be easily calculated, providing an indication of how far the transmission line is from its severe load condition and allowing separate analysis if one transmission line is highly stressed.

Abstract: As the demand for wireless service increases, the number of channels assigned to a cell eventually becomes insufficient to support the required number of users. This has been a major concern for both the users and network operators. It is required to offer a very high capacity within limited spectrum allocation. The allocated spectrum gradually becomes congested and eventually becomes used up. Congestion in the spectrum leads to increase in call blocking probability which is not desired in the system. Therefore, several techniques can be used to improve the channel capacity and total area coverage with the limited spectrum allocation. This paper mainly looks at the various techniques of enhancing or improving cellular capacity with Cell splitting, Cell sectoring, Microcell zone and Repeaters.

Abstract: Power system security is one of the major concerns in recent years due to the deregulation of power systems which are forced to operate under stressed operating conditions. This paper presents an enhanced radial basis function neural network (ERBFNN) to examine whether the power system is secure under steady-state operating conditions. Hidden layer units have been selected with the proposed algorithm, which has the advantage of being able to automatically choose optimal unit centers and distances. The proposed approach to contingency analysis was found to be suitable for fast voltage and line-flow contingency screening. The generalization capability of the proposed method was able to identify unknown contingencies with large range of operating conditions and changes in network topology. The advantages of this method are simplicity of algorithm and high accuracy in classification. A case study with IEEE 14-bus power system is used to illustrate the good performance of the proposed method.

Abstract: Parabolic collectors are widely used for concentrating solar energy for thermal applications. Researchers have conducted experiments to enhance efficiency of the collectors by employing several methods and simulation techniques. A review of the investigations and future scope of investigations on parabolic collectors is presented.

Abstract: This paper presents a method for the optimal allocation of Distributed generation in distribution systems for voltage profile improvement and loss reduction in distribution network. Genetic Algorithm (GA) has been used as the solving tool, which referring two determined aim; the problem is defined and objective function is introduced. Considering to fitness values as sensitivity in genetic algorithm process, there is needed to apply load flow for decision-making. Load flow algorithm is combined appropriately with GA, till access to acceptable results of this operation. The suggested method is programmed under MATLAB software and applied MIPOWER software for evaluating of results correctness. Developed methodology has been  implemented on two IEEE 69 and 52 node systems. The resulting operation of this method on some testing system is demonstrated improvement of voltage profile and loss reduction indexes.

Abstract: For military missions and environment monitoring wireless sensor network always provide a great potential. Wireless sensor nodes need to be deployed at a distance from the base station in many applications, where the data or information are collected, stored, and analyzed. In almost all applications in wireless sensor network long distance transmissions are often required and they consumed lot of energy. Long distance achieved by Collaborative beamforming, yet low energy consuming, transmissions by means of multiple simultaneous nodes transmitting the same data to the same receiver. Collaborative transmission introduces some energy overhead due to additional steps. Several techniques are presenting in this dissertation for achieving energy-efficient collaborative transmissions in wireless sensor networks. The following questions are addressed here: (1) Energy can be saved by collaborative transmission or not, and which are the key factors that are determined, (2) how the network lifetime can be prolong by collaborative transmission , and (3) how to perform collaborative transmissions to extend the transmission distance. The first one can be addressed by achieving collaborative beamforming transmissions using different approaches. In This dissertation the factors that affect the energy savings for beamforming transmissions are analyzed. The second one is addressed using an energy-efficient transmitter scheduling algorithm that balance the energy consumption over the network, it also prolonging the network lifetime. At last, the third one is addressed by selecting a method for use beamforming in multi-hop transmissions to extend the transmission distance between hops.

Abstract: Photovoltaic Energy is the most important Energy Resource since it is clean pollution free and inexhaustible. In recent years a large number of techniques have been proposed for tracking the Maximum Power Point. Maximum Power Point Tracking is used in photovoltaic system to maximize the photovoltaic output power irrespective of the temperature & irradiance condition. The P-V & I-V characteristic is obtained for various values of solar irradiance & temperature. The method is based on use of Incremental Conductance of the PV & Beta method to determine a Maximum Output Power. MPPT algorithm plays an important role in increasing the efficiency of system, the purpose of this paper is to study and compared two Maximum Power Point Tracking algorithms in a Photovoltaic System.

Abstract: This paper shows the result of employing frequency response analysis for synthesizing 45MVA transformer winding parameter which has been optimized by artificial bee colony (ABC) method. The applied optimization method is suitably adopted by effective parameters, defined values and bounds to the research area and thereby ensures the good performance of transformer by frequency response analysis. The selected frequency range FRA data gives a report on bode diagram. Objective of this research work is to minimize the resonance frequency of transformer by changing the capacitance value of transformer winding and analyzing the different condition of winding e.g. healthy winding and faulty winding condition which include severe winding condition also. Reference input impedance frequency response has been calculated by an electrical circuit model of three phase transformer healthy condition. That FRA response has been used for comparison with faulty condition response of transformer winding. This method has advantages in terms of fault analysis in transformer winding, less parameter and time efficient method.  Stability of our system can also be examined by clear shift of resonance point in characteristic of FRA.

Abstract: Estimating the material erosion rate caused by the solid particle laden flow is a critical aspect with respect to the safety and performance of the systems. Applying the computational fluid dynamics (CFD) methods for predicting material erosion is gaining popularity. In this paper, the various aspects related to the CFD simulation procedure for modeling the material erosion had been discussed. Based on the available literature, a comprehensive simulation practices for the erosion modeling such as selection of Boundary conditions, One Way / Two Way Couplings between the solid and fluid phase, particle impact angle, Turbulence modeling, CFD Meshing standards, convergence criteria, influence of Wall Roughness, Particle injection profile, erosion for multiple geometries like elbows, were discussed.
