Abstract: The process of language learning calls for a learning method which not only makes learners active participants in the learning process but also makes them enjoy as well as develop interest in the language skills they learn. Studies have advocated for scaffolding as an appropriate method to learn English as a subject. However, in Kenyenya sub-county, scaffolding is minimally utilized during English lessons, hence, there is scanty literature on the effect of scaffolding on learners’ subject interest. Thus, the purpose of the study was to investigate the effects of scaffolding on interest to learn English as a subject among secondary school learners. The study was informed by cognitive load theory as built upon information processing theory. Sequential explanatory design within the mixed methods approach was adopted, involving Solomon-four non-equivalent quasi experimental group design in quantitative data collection and interviews for qualitative data collection. The target population was 78 teachers of English and 2678 form three students (2022 class). The sample size constituted 364 students and 10 teachers, purposively sampled for quantitative data collection, followed by 10 teachers and 10 learners selected by simple random sampling as interview respondents. Quantitative data was analyzed using mean, standard deviation and paired samples t-test whereas qualitative data was analyzed thematically. Results showed that the posttest mean scores of subject interest among the experimental groups were higher than those of the control groups. The paired samples t-test showed a statistically significant effect of scaffolding learning on subject interest. From qualitative data, the study established that scaffolding led to an improvement in interest to learn English among learners. The study concluded that scaffolding was the most appropriate language learning technique as it was very effective in boosting learners’ interest to learn English.

Abstract: The study investigated Self-esteem as a predictor of Psychosocial Adjustment among in-school adolescents in Anambra State. The purpose of the study was to find out if self-esteem predicts in-school adolescents’ psychosocial adjustments. One research questions and One null hypothesis guided the study. Correlational Survey research design was adopted for the study. The population of the study comprised 19,478 senior secondary two (SS11) students in 268 secondary schools in the six education zones in Anambra State for the 2021/2022 academic session. The sample size of the study comprises 3,000 SS11 students sampled from the 19,478 SSII students in the 268 secondary schools in Anambra State. The sample was obtained using multi-stage sampling procedure. Two questionnaires titled “Self-esteem questionnaire (SEQ) and Psychosocial adjustment questionnaire (PSOAQ) were used for data collection. The instruments were validated by three experts; two from the Department of Educational Foundations and the other in the Department of Guidance and Counseling, all from the Faculty of Education, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka. The reliability of the instruments was established using Crombach’s alpha method and the alpha coefficients got were 0.88 and 0.78 respectively for SEQ, and PSOAQ. Data collected were analyzed using Linear-regression analysis. The findings showed that self-esteem significantly predicts in-school adolescents’ psychosocial adjustment.  It was recommended among others; that in-school adolescents should be given strong encouragement to avoid inflated self-esteem, unstable low self-esteem and unstable high self-esteem which may deteriorate their psychosocial adjustment.

Abstract: This study focuses on the development and quality assurance of weekly learning activity sheets (WLAS) for grade V Science in the third quarter. The research employed a descriptive developmental research design and utilized Field Testing Validation to measure the validity and usability of the crafted WLAS for both learners and teachers. Frequency and Percentage Distribution analysis were used to determine the responses of the Quality Assurance (QA) members using a standardized tool. Thematic analysis was employed to analyze qualitative data by consolidating the common responses of the QA members.

The study followed the Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation (ADDIE) model as its research design, ensuring careful quality assurance of the WLAS. The development process of the WLAS encompassed the pre-development stage, development stage, and post-development stage.

The research findings indicate that Science has the lowest Mean Percentage Score (MPS) among all subjects for grade 5 students in the academic year 2021-2022. The performance data revealed that the third quarter had the lowest MPS compared to other quarters, which served as the basis for developing WLAS for grade 5 pupils. The development of the WLAS followed the ADDIE model, considering all learning competencies in the third quarter of grade 5 Science.

The validity and usability of the developed WLAS were found to be high, as evidenced by the favorable results and discussions of the field-testing conducted with learners and teachers. The standardized tool used to measure the WLAS showed positive responses from the QA members.

The study recommends that learners utilize the crafted WLAS as additional materials to master competencies. The utilization of the ADDIE model in crafting WLAS is essential to ensure the careful development of learning activity sheets through the three phases: pre-development, development, and post-development. The developed WLAS has met the quality assurance standards and can be implemented in the entire Division of Agusan del Norte. Teachers should be informed about the availability of the quality-assured WLAS on the LRMDS portal. Furthermore, the crafting of WLAS can be continued by the district or division to contextualize and localize appropriate materials for specific groups or ethnicities. Future researchers are encouraged to create their own WLAS or learning activity sheets for different subject areas and quarters.

Abstract: The purpose of this study was to examine lecturers’ perceptions of collegiality at four private colleges in Sabah and Sarawak.  The sample consisted of 44 lecturers who completed the Teacher Collegiality Scale that was administered online.  Kruskal-Wallis H test revealed no significant differences in lecturers’ perceptions by way of age and job experience, while Mann-Whitney U test showed no significant differences in terms of gender.  Wilcoxon signed rank test revealed that four of the items (with low percentages of agreement) were significant at p < 0.001: (1) Professional interactions among lecturers are cooperative and supportive, (2) lecturers often ask each other for suggestions to specific student/discipline problems, (3) staff often consult each other informally and (4) staff often share materials related to their teaching.  The same test also revealed that 19 of the items (with low percentages of agreement) were significant at p < 0.05.  Percentages of agree/strongly agree for each item were collapsed to gain an overall impression of lecturers’ perceptions of collegiality.  Percentages of agreement were found to range from merely 9.1 percent to 47.7 percent, once again, indicating that lecturers’ perceptions of collegiality at private colleges were extremely negative. In light of the findings, recommendations were made on ways to enhance collegiality amongst lecturers.

Abstract: Overview: Physical Education is an integral part of the human experience. Throughout history, it has empowered the transformation of individuals and societies by providing a place for people to revisit, reflect, and respond. A strong arts education is foundational to developing creative, educated citizens.

Body of Knowledge: The study was guided by the following specific objectives: (i) To establish whether rural Secondary Schools have suitable infrastructure and materials for Physical Education to teach the subject: (ii) To assess the availability of qualified physical education teachers in rural Secondary Schools in Kasama District, and (iii) To establish how best to improve and sustain the quality of Physical Education provided in Secondary Schools in Kasama District.

Methods: Descriptive survey design was used were both qualitative and quantitative research methods were employed with the target population of 500 and a sample of 50 respondents; 10% of the target population. Interviews and questionnaires were used to collect data. Respondents were drawn from four (4) selected secondary schools offering Physical Education subject in Kasama District which included School Managers, Physical Education Teachers, SESOs, Pupils and Parents. Qualitative and quantitative techniques of data analysis was used, and data was presented on the analytical tools such as tables, figures and charts.

Results: The study revealed that the policy on Physical Education is being provided in few secondary schools that have adopted this subject as a vocational subject. The findings further demonstrated that there is lack of adequate teaching and learning materials and equipment for Physical Education Further, the findings showed that there is a critical shortage of conducive infrastructure and lack of qualified Physical Education (P.E) teachers.

Recommendation: There is need to speed up the production and distribution of teaching and learning materials and equipment as well as train and deploy more qualified Physical Education (P.E) teachers in secondary schools.

Abstract: Teacher professional competence is the primary criterion for teacher qualification assessment and a crucial factor influencing education quality. Normal university students must acquire certain professional competence to better meet the requirements of instructional practices. This paper examines the forms and skill requirements of teaching competitions for normal university students and analyzes the development of professional competence in mathematics for normal university students with extensive teaching competition experience. It is concluded that teaching competitions effectively promote the development of teaching practice abilities and self-development capabilities, with less impact on the development of teaching ethics implementation capacity and comprehensive educational capability.

Abstract: This Study investigated the impact of external debt shocks on real sector of the Nigerian economy using annual time series data from 1986 to 2020. Specifically, it investigated the impact of external debt shocks on agricultural output in Nigeria. Augment Dickey Fuller and Phillips Perron unit root tests were used and the tests show that all the variables under study are stationery at first difference. The study, also, employed Structural VAR model, the results from the impulse response functions revealed that, manufacturing output has a negative shocks impacts on agricultural output in Nigeria. External debt has a negative shocks impacts on agricultural output in Nigeria. Exchange rate has a positive effect on the agricultural output in Nigeria. The study concludes that external debt exerts negative impact on the real sector in Nigeria. The study therefore, recommended that Nigerian government should try to avoid excessive external debt due to its negative effect in the long run in the economy and danger of repayment of loans including principal and interest. Loan should also be utilize judiciously in a way to diversify the economy and achieved higher economic growth.

Abstract: The study was carried out to investigate the availability and utilization of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) facilities for teaching and learning of Physics education in tertiary institutions in south-south geopolitical zone of Nigeria. The study adopted descriptive design. The population of the study comprised of all Physics teachers and students in all the tertiary institutions of the south-south geopolitical zone of Nigeria. The sample of the study comprised of ten (10) Physics teachers and five (5) Physics \ students each from four universities, four Polytechnics and four Colleges of Education drawn from the six states in the south- south geopolitical zone of Nigeria. The instrument for data collection was structured four point scale questionnaire. Four research questions guided the study. The research questions were analyzed using mean and standard deviation. The results of the data analysis showed that most of the ICT facilities that will enhance the teaching and learning of Physics are not available. The study also revealed that the extent to which teachers and students use ICT facilities for teaching and learning of Physics education is low. Furthermore, the results from the study also show that the level of ICT skills of both the Physics teachers and students are high but there are lot of challenges facing the use of ICT facilities for teaching and learning of Physics education in tertiary institutions in south- south geopolitical zone of Nigeria.
