Abstract: Quantity surveying has significantly evolved from traditional manual calculations to sophisticated digital tools that enhance precision and efficiency. This paper explores the historical development of quantity surveying, emphasizing the transition from conventional methods to modern software solutions. Special focus is placed on tools designed for architects and draftsmen, including PlanSwift, Bluebeam Revu, Cubicost TAS, and Autodesk Revit. A comparative analysis is conducted to assess their impact on accuracy, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness. Findings indicate that BIM-integrated tools improve automation and reduce human errors, leading to better material utilization. The paper concludes with recommendations for integrating advanced quantity surveying technologies into modern construction practices.

Abstract: Advancements in digital architectural tools have profoundly impacted the efficiency and accuracy of drafting professionals. This research explores the correlation between Autodesk Revit and Rhinoceros (Rhino), specifically examining how their combined utilization influences architectural workflows, design quality, and documentation precision. By conducting a thorough review of existing literature, case studies, and practical software integration methods, the study evaluates the effectiveness of incorporating Revit’s robust Building Information Modeling (BIM) functionalities with Rhino’s advanced parametric and computational modeling capabilities. The findings suggest significant improvements in workflow productivity, accuracy of technical documentation, and adaptive responses to project changes, positively impacting draftsmen’s performance in architectural and construction industries.

Abstract: The compressive strength and microstructural characteristics of bituminous sand-based concrete are the main subjects of this investigation. Open excavation was used to obtain bituminous sand, which was then crushed with a scoop to sand sizes. Bituminous sand and river sand, which served as a control, were combined with regular Portland cement. Cement, aggregates, water content, and the ratio of water to cement did not change. The fresh concrete was subjected to tests for slump and compacting factor. The fresh property test, compressive strength test and microstructural analysis were done for normal strength concrete as well as bituminous sand concrete (BSC). The fresh property of concrete was evaluated using slump test and compacting factor test. The compressive strength was done after curing the samples for 7, 14, 21, 28, 56, 90 and 150 days respectively. Microstructural analysis was done via scanning electron microscope and Energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (SEM-EDS) for all concrete mixes. From the investigation, BSC concrete is more workable compared to the control. The compressive strength of the samples increased with increase in curing age though at a different rate with the control concrete gaining the highest strength. The BSC attained grade C15 status at 28 days of curing. SEM micrograph for the BSC showed a crystalline-like irregular shaped structure and the refined patterns and voids were more noticed compared to the control. From the EDS, the control concrete gave high silica to calcium, S/Ca ratio of 1342.2 while the BSC had S/Ca ratio of 46. Thus, this could be responsible for the low strength of the BSC at 28 days compared to the control at same curing age. This study has revealed that BSC is an excellent choice for developing unreinforced foundations for houses, paving, residential flooring and freestanding retaining walls.

Abstract: This study examines the effects of maintenance on public school buildings in Oshimili South, Warri South, and Ughelli North Local Government Areas of Delta State, Nigeria. Utilizing a survey research design, data were collected through questionnaires of 56 public school buildings, supplemented by secondary data from literature and online resources. A stratified random sampling approach ensured representation of the 348-target population, comprising SUBEB and PPEB staff and teachers. Data analysis was performed using SPSS (version 22) and MS Excel, employing descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation, and Relative Importance Index (RII). The results revealed that maintenance significantly enhances the educational environment, with "beautifying the environment," "increasing student enrollment," and "ensuring health and safety" ranked as the top effects. Correlation analysis confirmed a strong positive relationship between maintenance and teaching and learning outcomes, with a Pearson correlation coefficient of 0.968 (p < 0.05). This underscores the critical role of maintenance in fostering academic performance, teacher productivity, and community pride. The study recommends the development of comprehensive maintenance policies, the appointment of skilled maintenance managers, and increased stakeholder involvement to ensure sustainable management of school infrastructure. By prioritizing maintenance, public schools in Delta State can provide a conducive learning environment, improve education quality, and safeguard long-term investments in education.
